To Sense is to Predict
Health challenges are accelerating worldwide, from rising noncommunicable diseases to climate linked exposures and emerging infectious threats. Although life expectancy continues to increase, well-being is not keeping pace. In 2022, global life expectancy reached 73.6 years and is projected to reach 78.1 years by 2050, while healthy life expectancy grows more slowly from 64.8 to 67.4 years in the same period (ScitechDaily, 2024). This widening gap shows that living longer does not guarantee living healthier.
The cost of inaction is significant
Chronic diseases are expected to contribute 47 trillion USD in global costs by 2030, and poor health reduced global GDP by an estimated 15 percent in 2020. These figures illustrate the scale of the human and economic burden created when risks are detected too late.
At the same time, large parts of the world remain underserved. An estimated 4.5 billion people lack full access to essential health services, and many facilities still operate without basic hygiene, water or sanitation (World Health Organization, 2025). These disparities limit the impact of scientific and technological progress and weaken the effectiveness of early detection for the populations who need it most.
What we aim to achieve
To transform sensing into true prevention, health systems must evolve toward a global anticipatory health ecosystem. This edition of the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit will explore how sensing technologies and scientific progress can be connected into coherent systems that support earlier decisions and coordinated responses. The goal is clear: strengthen resilience, extend healthy life expectancy and uphold dignity and quality of life while enabling collaborative, scalable and sustainable solutions toward longevity.
